THE MACAW
THE MACAW

This blue and gold macaw is called Pinto. He and his mate live close by with friends of mine
and they are released to fly free most days.

I sometimes open my window shutters to find Pinto swinging on the wires outside. His favourite haunt is the local hotel’s top balcony where patrons promise they only ever feed him his favourite food, shortbread biscuits … or so they say.

Pinto loves people and used to swoop down to join school children playing cricket in the park. He was taken home by a man who said he thought the bird was ‘lost’ and who responded after several weeks to the reward being offered. We hope the reward covered the damage Pinto did biting kitchen cupboards and other wooden furniture.
